The Best Way to Sell Courses in 2019
Selling online courses can be overwhelming. I have tried many solutions, and I wanted to share with you what I believe is the best one.
The e-Learning industry is growing every year, and more and more people are thinking about creating their first online course.
Choosing a profitable course idea or creating the quality content are, of course, the essential factors of success, but the platform you use to host and sell your class is as important.
Three Main Solutions to Choose From
Currently, there are three main methods to sell your course: using the marketplace (ex) Udemy , on your website (ex) WordPress website with eCommerce plugins), or using the all-in-one platform (ex) Podia).
Each of these solutions has its pros and cons.
The Marketplace might improve the immediate exposure to your course, but you have to give up the full control and a large percentage of your profit.
Hosting an online course on your website gives you the most freedom to sell it in any way you want, but you have to do everything yourself and to pay for different plugins needed to make the student experience complete.
Finally, when you choose any of all-in-one platforms for hosting and selling online courses, they take care of everything for you for the comparably affordable price, but you lose the freedom you had with your website.
I have tried all three of these solutions, and I have concluded that hosting your online course on the all-in-one platform is the best way to go. By handing over some of the work to the all-in-one platform, I was able to invest more time in the actual creating process of my courses.
The best all-in-one platform
I always do in-depth research before committing to using any product, so it was not different with all-in-one platforms. I have used Gumroad for about a year, and it was great for digital downloads, but it lacked the essential features for hosting online courses, and their customer support was the worst I have ever seen. I have considered Teachable, Thinkific, and Kajabi, but at the end of the day, they all were too complicated for me.
Then, I have discovered Podia (previously known as Coach), and I was blown away by the simplicity and effectiveness they offer in every aspect of their platform.
These are the main things I love about podia:
- Awesome customer support
- Integrated email marketing tools
- No transaction fees or commissions
- Ability to sell both courses and digital products
- Instant payouts to PayPal
Podia also allows you to create the membership site, but I haven't personally tried it yet, so I can't say how useful it is.
There are still things I would love to see improved in Podia (for example, more in-depth analytics for email campaigns), but overall I believe that Podia is the best all-in-one platform for hosting and selling online courses (as well as digital products).
