Google Introduces A New Google Calendar App

Few days ago, Google has updated the web version of Google Calendar with a few decent improvements like getting the updates without refreshing the webpage, seeing the selected calendars without scrolling, support for browser back button, etc. Today, Google is continuing to improve the Google Calendar by introducing a completely new Calendar app for smartphones and tablets.

The new app is designed based on Material Design - Google's new visual design approach, which is being introduced with the new version of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The app is trying to be more like an assistant to user, instead of being just a timetable for events that you have to manually edit all the time. The main focus of new app is to save time by automatically inputting the necessary information for events.

These are just some of the many new features of new Google Calendar app.

Automatic import of events from Gmail

Probably the biggest of the new features is an automatic import of the event information from Gmail. These days, your email inbox is the center of everything happening in your life, and it is highly possible that every movie ticket you buy, every flight you book, every hotel reservation you do are ending up being an email in your inbox.

If you are a Gmail user, the new Google Calendar app will automatically create events based on this kind of emails you are getting to your inbox. In the process, the app will add all the necessary information like flight times, ticket numbers, etc. All events will stay up to date, and in case if there is a new email or any change in things like flight times, the event information will be updated completely automatically.

Assists: Google Search-like suggestions

For the occasions when you input the necessary information yourself, Google has built into the Calendar app the new Assists feature, that works similar to Google search suggestions. It learns from your event history and suggests the people or preferred time for events, titles and places, all in real time.

A stylish schedule view

In addition to hugely improved functionality, the app provides a beautiful and stylish way to view your schedule. The brand new Schedule view shows the photos and maps of locations of your events, information about your travel destinations, and even simple animations of everyday events like lunch or jogging.

The new app will be available in coming weeks for all devices running Android 4.1 or higher, as well as for iOS.
