Google Announces Plugin-free Hangouts

This week Google has announced that it is finally going to let users use Video Hangouts without the need to download and install a plugin. From now on, all you will have to do is to start a Hangout and allow your browser to use your camera and microphone.

Until now, Hangouts video chatting required the NPAPI plugin installed, but since Google announced last year that it is not going to support this kind of plugins anymore, it was obvious that Google will provide the new plugin-free solution for its app. Instead of NPANI plugin, Hangouts are going to use the WebRTC and Native Client technology.

Plugin-free Hangouts will be publicly available in coming weeks, but if you want to try it right now, you can do so by downloading the Chrome from Developer or Canary channels.
