Follow the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Google
I am passionate about football (soccer) as much as I am passionate about IT, so I cloud not miss the chance to write about the biggest event in football in last four years - FIFA World Cup. There are many ways to follow your team and learn interesting information the tournament. Search giant Google has decided to use the power of its search engine to provide the unique way to learn about the World Cup and stay up to date with latest results.
Google Now Cards
The feature I am going to use a lot during the World Cup is Google Now Cards. All I have to do is to search for 'world cup' on my laptop or mobile device, and Google will provide the cards with all important information at the top of search results. As you can see on screenshots below, it is possible to quickly learn about the schedule of matches, lineups, match stats, goal scorers, group standings, stadiums etc.
FIFA World Cup website based on Google Trends
Google also built a special website with the interesting information about all the matches, based on its service Google Trends, which provides an easy and elegant way to learn about the global search activity. The website, available at google.com/worldcup, provides match-by-match information about the opponents and current trends in related countries. You can see the screenshot gallery of this site at the end of this post.
Since our resource is technology related, I want to mention that 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is going to use goal-line technology for the first time in World Cups history. FIFA has tested several systems over the recent years and decided to adapt goal-line technology of German company GoalControl GmbH.
I am excited about the beginning of World Cup and it is nice to know that, thanks to Google, there is one more way to follow my team during the tournament.
We wish good luck to your team and may the strongest one win!
